To My Sir … With Love.........On Teacher's Day

To My Sir … With Love

You taught us poetry, we understood Life,
Your comments, suggestions and quaint smiles
Left patterns and new designs in our minds.
Sir, often, you did overcome, moments of strife.

Great poet, master critic and good friend,
I bow my head and heart in true regard.
You had your puns, joke and pet codes,
Confused many a genius, yet a few understood.

‘Lucy,’ ‘The Wasteland’ and ‘The Wind hover,
Surely came alive, grew desolate and flew high.
We saw her, knew the thirst and the divine power.
Enjoyed the magic of poetry as the days went by.

Humbly I heard you, whenever you spoke,
Secretly admired your vibrant mind and pen.
Truly loved the poets’ poet who bravely broke,
The accepted tradition and age- old convention.

Poetry was (indeed) life to you, and life poetry,
Ironic splashes of black, white and grey.
Faint glimpse of the great mind, eye,
Adieu, dear teacher, my sir, who silently went by.
